TITLE: Interactive Properties Group, Inc. LaunchesMyFuneralPlan.com
Website lets you plan your funeral online
March 2, 2000 (CLEVELAND) - Cleveland-based Interactive Properties Group, Inc. today announced the launch of MyFuneralPlan.com, a consumer-oriented website that allows visitors to plan their funeral arrangements online.
MyFuneralPlan.com simplifies the funeral planning process into five easy steps. Visitors follow these steps to make their own arrangements, identify their funeral home and cemetery, select the type of casket (and/or urn) they prefer, and list any other preferences they have. The details are saved online, and hardcopies of the final plan are printed out and automatically mailed to the user, their selected funeral home and cemetery, and to two other individuals identified by the user.
"Our site truly is the first of its kind," explains Marcus May, CEO of Interactive Properties Group. "While there are a few other sites on this topic, they are all designed to SELL something--like caskets or prepaid funeral plans--to the consumer. Our site is the only one that is solely focused on the visitor's final wishes--and nothing more. We offer the most comprehensive planning tool available--and we've made it easy to understand and use. And by automatically mailing hardcopies of the plan, we're sharing the visitor's final wishes with those who will need to know them."
Interactive Properties Group believes its service is perfectly suited for the web. Until now, the only way to pre-plan your funeral was to go to a funeral home and discuss the arrangements with a funeral director.
"Let's face it," comments Mr. May. "None of us wants to spend time at a funeral home, unless we absolutely have to. MyFuneralPlan.com lets you plan your arrangements in the privacy of your own home, at your own pace, without any sales pressure."
The cost of the service ($19.95 or $14.95 for AARP members) covers printing and mailing of the final plan documents as well as permanent online storage and unlimited updates to the plan. The site offers its service for free to immediate-need users (visitors who need to make immediate arrangements for a loved one).
"Anyone who has ever had to make funeral arrangements know just how difficult it is, adding additional stress to an already difficult situation," adds Mr. May. "MyFuneralPlan.com is designed to help its users save their families and loved ones from having to deal with this unnecessary stress."
"Our goal is to make preplanning your funeral as commonplace as writing your will. With MyFuneralPlan.com, we've simplified the task, brought it out of the funeral home, and made it accessible for people to do on their own time and in the comfort and privacy of their own homes."

Background: The Genesis of MyFuneralPlan.com
When my business partner first approached me with the idea for My Funeral Plan.com, I immediately knew hewas on to something...
You see, my mother passed away two years ago this February. She was 82. Although her health had been deteriorating for the past year, her passing still came a shock to all of us. What was already a terrible situation was made even more difficult when it came to to arrange her funeral. None of us knew her wishes--not I, nor my dad, nor my brother and two sisters. None of us knew what Mom would have really wanted. Like most families, we just didn't talk about these things. We wound up spending the better part of a day at the funeral home, agonizing over every detail. Mom had always done everything she could for us, so she deserved the best; we just wanted to make sure that our choices would have pleased her. But because we really didn't know her preferences, it wasa difficult time...
My father-in-law passed away just three months later. He was a decorated WWII veteran, a very strong man who had served his country proudly. My wife and her family had a better idea of his wishes. They already had a cemetery plot and some other ideas for how he would have wanted things arranged. Unfortunately, their funeral director never even suggested a military-style casket or service, which they only learned about during my research for this website. He had a very nice service, but to this day we all can't help but feel that he would have preferred a military-style casket and service...
That's why I knew my business partner was on to something when he recently suggested, "Wouldn't it be great if there was a site that would let you pre-plan your funeral online, in the comfort of your own home, at your own pace, without any sales pressure from a funeral director trying to sell you pre-need insurance--but still providing you with alloptionsavailable?"
That's what My Funeral Plan.com is all about. It's a website designed to help people in helping their families and loved ones. We're NOT about selling caskets or pressuring you into paying for your funeral in advance (although we do provide you with information on how to do so, if you want it). We're about helping you make informed decisions in order to plan ahead, so that you can save your family and loved ones a huge burden later on.
I feel very strongly about this site. I wanted it to work for you, for me, for the "average guy on the street." You won't find any funeral industry jargon on this site. I designed it myself, after a lot of research, to be easy to use and understand for everyone. In addition to using it myself, I asked family and friends to go through the process, so that I could see where people might run into questions, and then kept redesigning the process until it was as simple--yet comprehensive-- as possible. My business partner has a long history in the funeral services industry. With his knowledge and experience, we have ensured that our site meets the needs of funeral directors as well, so that your preferences are able to be carried out.
The end result is a site that is easy-to-use, ensures that your final wishes are understood, and saves your family and loved ones from having to make difficult decisions at a most difficult time.
I hope you find this a helpful tool, and I am always interested in ways to make this site even better. If you have any thoughts or suggestions, please send them to interactiveCMO@yahoo.com, or call us at216-274-9233.
Sincerely,
